WORLD of DRUM and BASS SAN FRANCISCO
SAN FRANCISCO it's time again for the big one, the mother of all drum and bass motherships, over SIX HOURS LONG and FIFTY THOUSAND WATTS LOUD, THREE ROOMS of dance music excellence, thank god almighty it's time again for the
WORLD OF
DRUM AND
BASS

This year we got Ram Records, Metalheadz, V Recordings and Formation in the house--which is to say we've got the widest variety of drum and bass vibes to every touch down on San Francisco at once. We got dubstep, live beats, hip-hop and booty bass. We got outdoor smoker's paradise, upstairs lover's rock, and downstairs down and dirty. We got BIG reinforced sound by FSOUND. Junglists, party people, dancers and heads, this year is going to be simply WICKED.
CLICK HERE FOR PRESALES AND GET READY TO RUMBLE
Now, let's talk about the utter awesomeness of that line-up:
IN THE CATACOMBS, WITH REINFORCED SOUND BY FSOUND
CHASE AND STATUS

At the 2008 1 Xtra Drum and Bass awards, Ram Records' CHASE AND STATUS won PRODUCERS OF THE YEAR, SONG OF THE YEAR ("Take Me Away") and ALBUM OF THE YEAR ("More Than A Lot"). In short, CHASE AND STATUS are the biggest thing in drum and bass right now, and they represent all flavors of the D&B spectrum: tought and edgy, funky and bouncing, smooth and rolling. They aren't playing the WORLD of DRUM and BASS MIAMI, so we are especially STOKED that they will be touching down for the WORLD of DRUM and BASS SAN FRANCISCO. Like your mama's ass, this will be BIG.
BAILEY

Ninja please. Do we need to say anything about BAILEY? He is a Metalheadz resident DJ of over 10 years, an award winning radio host (1Xtra BBC), a label owner (Intasound), A&R assistant for Goldie’s label (Rufige) and is increasing his high profile as a producer with releases under his belt on Full Cycle and Metalheadz. In other words, BAILY is the OG, um, OJ--ORIGINAL JUNGLIST. Nobody knows what kind of set he will drop on March 20th--it might be deep, it might be in your face, it might crunch or might croon, but we can all be certain it will be something to remember. COMPRESSION is very VERY excited to have Bailey in the house.
DJ SS

Founder of Formation Records, legendary producer of the seminal track "LIGHTER!," creator and manager of the WORLD of DRUM and BASS, COMPRESSION professor emeritus and one of the greatest, most exciting drum and bass DJ's in the world--DJ SS is a motherfucking pimp. Plus, if you're a COMPRESSION head and have seen him when he's come through before, you know that SS behind the COMPRESSION decks equals extreme, epic mayhem. He never fails to disappoint, and is going to bounce TEMPLE as hard as it's ever been bounced. READY.
KENNY KEN

You know about the MIX AN BLEN? YOU DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE MIX AND BLEN?!? Hahahah, what the fuck, KENNY KEN is coming to San Francisco, and oh boy is Colonel ready for this one. Winner of the Junglist Soundclash back in 1994, KENNY KEN has been bouncing the fuck out of the world ever since. Alongside partner Crissy Chris, he's he head of the Mix and Blen label, has featured on BBC Radio (alongside MC GQ--look for those classic sets), continues to prove one of the rowdies and most fun DnB DJ's alive. This is one for the wobblers, so jump-up heads get ready.
ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE

This one's for the smokers, no DOUBT! ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE roll deep, sometimes dark, and always funky as fuck, and have appeared on Full Cycle, Good Looking, and every other DnB label that values ROLLING FUNK. If you remember the last time they were in town (at that weird little bar over there by Mezzanine), you know they about burned that mother to the ground. Shit, ask Zach--he hooked up with like three different chickS in there that night, it was so fucking funky. COME WITH IT!!
INFLUX

Sheeot, what is there to say about INFLUX UK? The loverman of the Formation camp, INFLUX burned down the world in 2007 with "It's Love," and at the WoDnB 2007 warmed up the whole club to ramming speed. INFLUX is for the ladies, and the lovers, and anyone who likes their DnB soulful and funky. YES MAN!!
2 CENTS

COMPRESSION'S own 2CENTS have played Germany, Miami, Estonia, Los Angeles and every other motherfugging place in between, but now, with new releases on LIFE RECORDINGS under their belts, they're coming to rock TEMPLE and give the big boys a run for their money. GO ON, DJ's AYE~N and MAL, bust that shit up! COMPRESSION CREW HOOOOOO!!
FEATURING MCS:
TALI :: THE COLONEL MC :: AX1OM
AUDIO ANGEL :: BIGGIE :: G1 :: ZEZO
IN THE LIVE MUSIC ROOM HOSTED BY RADIOACTIVE FROM
SPEARHEAD
GREENLAW

We here at COMPRESSION and the WORLD of DRUM and BASS recognize that all that D&B can crush your face and chew you up like gum. That's why we've got the live room and groups like GREENLAW. Open, airy, and funky as funk, GREENLAW is like Sade recording over at Portishead's house with Gilles Peterson and Lee Perry manning the decks. Funky, dubby, soulful and fun. A great compliment to the thunder and lightnin in the basement, GREENLAW will make the sun come out upstairs . . .
BEATROPOLIS

Add in San Francisco's own BEATROPOLIS and you've got a match made in dancefloor heaven. Touting an entirely distinctinctive mix of live D&B, soul, funk, and trip-hop, BEATROPOLIS is impossible to define, but absolutely easy to love. And with COMPRESSION MCs AX1OM and AUDIO ANGEL on the mic, you know that shit's going to be smooth and exciting. COMPRESSION is super psyched to see our hometown crew rolling on the national stage, and couldn't be more stoked that they're going to BLOW IT UP at WODNB.

INSANE REINFORCED SOUND BY FSOUND
As DnB legend BRYAN GEE said on his PYRO RADIO show after the World of Drum and Bass last year: "It was the loudest sound I ever heard in a club that small--louder even than VALVE."
PLEASE REMEMBER YOUR EARPLUGS
Last Year, we had some complaints about the size of the line out front, so please, play it smart: Buy pre-sale tickets now and get there early to avoid hearing the fattest bassline of your life and still being stuck in line!
AND THINK LIKE A RAVER: SWEATBANDS, SUNGLASSES, INTOXICANTS AND GOOD VIBES!

STAY LOW with Compression Crew
Our good friends at REFLEX are throwing a new monthly throw-down called STAY LOW, and COMPRESSION crew is stoked to be involved on the inagural night.
Roll out to UNDERGROUND SF (two blocks east of our LOWER HATER headquarters) and check the bouncing sounds of 2 CENTS, SHARP, MC AX!OM, and THE COLONEL. Also on the night are REFLEX bossman (and SF promoter extraordinaire) LUKEINO, BIG SOUNDS, MC ZEZO, and SF's newest DnB upstart, ESKAE. As always, this will be bootie-rockin BIG BEATS, even BIGGER BASS, and the sort of sexy-ass antics you expect from Compression Crew.
$5 ALL NIGHT, insanely stiff, cheap drinks, and all the hands-in-the-air drum and bass you can stand. COMPRESSION HEADS, COME THROUGH--WE MISS YOU!!

HARDCORE PORN SAYS: F*CK FINALS!!!
Hardcore Porn is back, now on FRIDAYS, and excited to set off the first monthly of many more to come. Bridging the gap between hipster cool and big bass craziness, Hardcore Porn is setting the new Lower Hater pace. Come get some, and peep fucking game with this month's bad-ass lineup:
Eli Glad is the young turk of the SF electro scene. Holding down residencies at Smut, Youngbloodz and Cassettes; he is a local favorite of fellow dj's and partygoers alike. Diversity and excitement--the man fucking brings it.
Evan Tenderlion may be a newcomer to the electro scene, but not new to making music. Prior to ‘dance’ production, Evan Atkinson, one half of the duo of the Tenderlions, used to make hip hop beats in high school. He has been quite busy as of late, playin parties around SF and creating a buzz in the process, and for good reason- the Tenderlions concoct some very solid music."
Aye~n has been a member of the San Francisco music scene for about a decade, earning his much deserved respect in the eyes of every SF DJ. From throwing Compression, the wildest DnB party in the city, to hosting the Americas room at the World of Drum and Bass WMC Miami every year, he has pulled together and played with some of the worlds greatest DJs. Whether it's his skilled mixing ability, his recent productions, or his upbeat bass-heavy track selection, people continue to come out and see Aye~ n destroy the dance floor.
Big Sounds may be the new DJ in town, but his talent says otherwise. Already with the BADNB love fest float set under his belt, Big Sounds has been and continues to bring these massive sounds as he gives you bassline after bassline. Deriving the name from his fathers record shop in Plainfield, NJ, in the 70s, Big Sounds carries on the legacy bringing the people great music, and a great party, whenever they're in need. When you hear the volume go up a few notches, get ready for a copious amount of Sound...and Porn.
The Colonel MC-- well you know. West Coast MC staple, nobody brings the fire like your boy. And with Compression on hiatus, he's about ready to explode. Come hear the new shit as Colonel gets down with two of the best DnB Dj's in America.
Underground SF, Friday Night!

Calibre, DRS and Compression at Mighty!
YES, SAN FRANCISCO. Finally, the Don Returns!
CALIBRE!
Calibre is one of the most prolific and respected DNB producers in the world. He's the bad bwoy Irishman behind countless funk anthems including "Drop it Down", "Red Light", "Mistical Dub", and his latest smash, "Hustlin." Known for his unique subliminal sound that rolls with dubbed out bass, sultry soul, and an infectious groove, it's not surprising how many labels have put out his timeless music! Come celebrate the release of the critically acclaimed hit "Hustlin" with his first appearance in SF in almost 3 years. If you were there last time you should know that this is not to be missed. If you weren't there, recognize, this ain't no hardcore banger action, this is rolled out, deep bass FUNK.
With support from legendary UK MC DRS, 2 CENTS and SHARP from COMPRESSION CREW, LUKEINO from REFLEX CREW, RICHIE PANIC from BLOW UP and the rest of the BANANAS SQUAD, the STILL DOIN IT GANG, and more. Vocals on the night from the incomparable AUDIO ANGEL and the one like AX1OM MC!!
LET'S ALL GET HAZED AND ROCK THE FUCK OUT!

COMPRESSION HELPS! Riding Dirty
So, you ever been riding dirty, you drive right pass a cop, you poop your pants and wonder what if I get pulled over? Well, if you do, here are some quick tips. Know the law and empower yourself.
Officers can always ask you to identify yourself and you have to tell them who you are. They can ask you for ID and you need to produce ID, but other than that, you don't have to tell them shit. And you shouldn't. Now, for some hypos...
Hypo 1: you got some weed in the car...
Police can stop you when they have reasonable suspicion. This means if you violate any laws, like if you were on your cell phone, the police can stop you. If they do, they have the right to search the whole compartment of the car- this means the front seats, back seats, glove compartment, and center console. This means everything but the trunk. If they want to get into the trunk they need probable cause. So... keep your shit in the trunk! Safest place. And don't do nothing to give them an excuse to pull you over. If you're riding dirty, you're driving Miss Daisy. Get it? Put it in the trunk and drive like a saint. (And if you don't believe it, watch COPS. Everybody that gets busted got pulled over for a REASON, and that's why they're busted!!) Take your hat off, take your sunglasses off, get off the phone, put on your seatbelt. Think: MARINA.
Hypo 2: you have weed in the car, you didn't read this so you've stored it in the center console.
If the cops pull you over for a traffic violation they can search the whole compartment, they do not need a warrant! So, what do you do? if you are white, you are good. The officers probably will give you a ticket and let you go. But if you are not, then.. do not admit that you have anything, even if the cops say that if you tell them they will go easy on you. Either way, if the officers ask you to submit to a search say NO. They have the right to search anyways, but if you say NO then you will have something to fight about in court. You're probably not going to win, but at least you'll have something to fight. If they search and find the drugs, don't explain it it--don't say they belong to your room mate, or that you only smoke sometimes, just say you want to speak to an attorney! Nothing you say is going to help!! You're going to have to fight it out in court, so give them as little to work with as possible. And good luck!
Hypo 3: You're walking down the street, dirrrrty, and the cops approach you. You haven't done shit.
Officers can frisk of you for weapons. And if they during the frisk they feel something that feels like drugs they can pull that out. So always keep your weed in a cigarette pack or something that does not feel to the touch like drugs or a weapon.
Hypo 4: you had a little bit too much to drink at the club and now you have to drive home.
If you get pulled over and a DUI investigation begins.. (1) DO NOT tell the officer anything. Answer nothing affirmatively--don't lie, just refuse to answer. "I don't want to answer any questions without my attorney present." (2) You have to submit to a chemical test (blood or breath) by law or your license will be suspended for a year. This means you have to submit to a breath or blood test. But there are two types of breath tests given. One at the scene and one at the station. You do not have to submit to a breath test on the scene. They want to give you a breathalizer on the scene you do not have to submit, in fact, you should refuse this test. ALWAYS! There are no consequences for refusing it. Then you should tell the officers that you will submit to a blood test, never a breath test. Caveat: if you are under the influence of drugs, then submit to a breath test at the station (never ever submit to the breath test at the scene!)
Please remember, the police are NOT your friends. They may tell you that they will go easier if you cooperate. Do not believe this! Do not say anything!! People end up incriminating themselves and they don't even know it!! Always opt for your right to remain silent and always say you want an attorney. They have to stop all questioning when you say that!!
Compression wants you to get by, but recognize: this isn't legal advice, just some tips we came up with based on experience and a little bit of research! Don't ride dirty, but if you do, ride dirty and SMART. Good luck!
